Buddy Guy, the greatest living blues star and principal role model for the greatest blues and rock guitarists of all time ranging from Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck all the way through to Jack White, will be heading to Europe in November after several years’ absence. One of the few shows on his short tour will be the Great Hall of Lucerna in Prague. The most notable contemporary blues guitarist released a new album in June with the promising name “The Blues Is Alive And Well”. The fifteen songs there confirm that the name of the album is not wrong. The unwavering power of the force of nature that is the blues is proven among other things by participation on the album by major stars of the global scene from the ranks of Guy’s pupils such as the guitarists Jeff Beck and Keith Richards or Mick Jagger.

Buddy Guy (1936) is the last contemporary to have been present during development of electric blues in the 50s and 60s to still be musically active. He has been one of the most respected guitarists in the past and present of blues for more than half a century now. During his youth, he accompanied some of the “founding fathers” from Chicago such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf or Willie Dixon. In the 60s, he was part of a famous duo with the harmonica player Junior Wells. Since the end of the 60s, Buddy Guy has mainly followed a solo career, releasing eighteen of his own studio albums and guesting on dozens of other projects. He has won many awards including eight Grammy Awards, countless Blues Music Awards and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 by Eric Clapton and B. B. King. Buddy Guy ranks 30th in the list of the100 greatest guitarists of all time announced by the American Rolling Stone magazine. Admirers who say they were influenced by his playing include guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page or Jack White. Guy’s influence on the music scene is immeasurable. “His solos just blew my head off, he broke with all of the conventions. What is more, he made playing really theatrical way before Jimi Hendrix – he played the guitar behind his head or threw it into the air and was able to catch it playing a chord, which was a trick I then also tried to learn,” said Jeff Beck, talking about Buddy Guy.

The concert will be taking place during the fourth year of BlueFest and is being organised by the Liver Music agency from Prague in collaboration with the international music festival Blues Alive Šumperk.
